TP304 Stainless Steel Welded Pipes & Tubes from China Suppliers | Reliable Factory Stock for Fast Delivery
Introduction
TP304 is a widely used austenitic stainless steel welded tube specified under standards such as ASTM A312/A312M (for welded pipes) and ASTM A269 (for general-service tubing). As part of the 300-series stainless steels, TP304 offers a balanced combination of corrosion resistance, formability, and cost-effectiveness. It is non-magnetic in the annealed state and contains 18-20% chromium and 8-10.5% nickel, making it suitable for diverse industrial, architectural, and sanitary applications. The higher carbon content (≤0.08%) compared to TP304L provides slightly enhanced strength but requires careful welding practices to avoid sensitization.
Key Features
Higher carbon content improves strength but increases susceptibility to sensitization (chromium carbide precipitation) during welding.
Higher strength than TP304L but requires post-weld annealing in corrosive environments to restore corrosion resistance.
Operating Range: -200°C to 400°C (-328°F to 752°F).
Avoid sustained use above 425°C (797°F) to prevent sensitization.
Common finishes: Annealed, pickled, polished (#4 brushed, BA bright annealed), or electropolished.
Sanitary applications: Mirror-like finishes (Ra ≤ 0.8 μm) compliant with 3-A Sanitary Standards.
Key Advantages
Balances performance, cost, and ease of fabrication.
Polished finishes for architectural and sanitary uses.
Easily fabricated with standard techniques (post-weld annealing optional based on application).
Why Choose TP304 Over TP304L?
Better mechanical properties for non-welded or lightly welded applications.
Lower initial cost than 316/L or duplex grades in mild environments.
Widely produced and stocked globally.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
QWhat manufacturing standards apply to TP304 stainless steel tubes?
TP304 is manufactured and specified under standard specifications including ASTM A312/A312M (for welded pipes), ASTM A269 (for general service tubing), ASTM A270, ASME SA312, and EN 10296-2.
QWhat is the main difference between TP304 and TP304L?
TP304 contains a higher carbon content (≤0.080%) compared to TP304L, which provides higher strength and better mechanical properties for non-welded or lightly welded applications, while remaining cost-effective and globally available.
QWhat is the recommended operating temperature range for TP304?
TP304 has an operating temperature range of -200°C to 400°C (-328°F to 752°F). Sustained operation above 425°C (797°F) should be avoided to prevent sensitization (chromium carbide precipitation).
QWhat surface finishes and end types are available for TP304?
Available finishes include Annealed, Pickled, Polished (#4 brushed, BA bright annealed), and Electropolished (mirror-like Ra ≤ 0.8 μm for 3-A Sanitary compliance). End finishes include Plain End, Beveled End, and Threaded.
QWhich industries and applications commonly utilize TP304 tubing?
Major applications include the Food & Beverage industry, Architecture & Construction, Chemical & Petrochemical processing, Automotive systems, Pharmaceuticals, and General Engineering.
QWhat quality inspections and certifications accompany TP304 tubes?
Products undergo 100% PMI testing, come with EN10204 3.1B Mill Test Certification, and support third-party inspection upon customer request.
