S32205 GRADE Duplex SS SMLS TUBE
Introduction
S32205 (UNS S32205) is a 22%-23% chromium, 4.5%-6.5% nickel, 3%-3.5% molybdenum duplex stainless steel with a balanced austenite-ferrite microstructure (~50/50 phase balance). It combines high strength, excellent corrosion resistance (especially against chloride stress corrosion cracking), and good weldability.
Key Features
Corrosion Resistance:
Chloride Resistance: Superior to 316L and 317L; resists pitting/crevice corrosion (PREN ≥35).
Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC): Immune in chloride-rich environments.
Acid/Alkali Resistance: Performs well in sulfuric, phosphoric acids, and alkaline solutions.
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Doubles the yield strength of standard austenitic steels (e.g., 304/316), allowing thinner/lighter designs.
Fabrication & Welding:
Welding: Requires controlled heat input; use 2209 filler metal.
Heat Treatment: Solution annealing at 1020–1100°C followed by rapid cooling.
Cold Working: Possible but requires annealing to restore phase balance.
